Back to Basics this V-Day

Happy Sunday all!!

I’ve been MIA on the blog lately…….

I write when I am inspired, I write when I have time and I write because I want to. Sadly and unfortunately, I haven’t had any of that recently. However, instead of being upset about it (I was for like, 2 mins), I’m just going to accept it and move on.

That’s why, I am writing to you TODAY! It’s a Sunday and I have nothing to do, so I am going to write…about Valentine’s Day of all things! I know last year I put out two gift guides, and that was awesome and you all really liked it. However, when I think about what I just wrote about inspiration, I did not feel inspired to write a gift guide this year and here’s why…

Valentine’s Day is awesome and for the most part, I really enjoy it. Mostly because I am in a relationship and have a reason to celebrate love, but also because a day devoted to love and commitment is really nice and chivalrous in a way, which we don’t see much of anymore.

However, I wanted to just go back to the basics this Valentine’s Day and instead of promote my favorite things and the best gifts, just talk about ways to share an evening with the person you love.

I get home from work really late every night so I don’t get to see my significant other as much as I would like. That’s why this Valentine’s Day, if he dropped by with some roses and a hug and asked me to hangout and watch one of our Netflix shows, I would be more than happy with that idea of a V-Day. Come the weekend, if we wanted to grab a bite to eat and share a glass of wine together, I would love that too. It seems like this year more than any year, the holidays, my birthday and Valentine’s Day all seem really close together. The last thing I need is another gift — if I am being completely honest. (I’ll regret saying that when it’s the middle of July and I’ve gone gift-less for five months and still have another 6 gift-less months ahead of me). I guess it’s because the fact that I am working full time now, time just seems to fly by. The bottom line is, what I want most this Valentine’s Day is to spend time with my guy, enjoy a glass of wine and relax. I’d like to reflect on love, and that’s how I am taking it back to the basics this year.

No gift guide, no favorite things — just plain ol’ blogging and loving.

Xx, Rae

My Galentine

Every year it seems my circle of friends gets smaller and smaller and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m not being cynical or closed off, I’m simply growing up, and I love watching it take it’s course.

If you don’t have a Valentine this year, that’s okay…I think it’s an important time to also reflect and appreciate the close friendships you have in your life. A little bit about me and my galentine (we both have Valentine’s, too, but can always be each other’s galentine’s). Taylor and I met back in 2012 (? WOW !) when we were in HIGH SCHOOL! We were both on the field hockey team and kind of hated every minute of it, so we bonded. We got closer and closer over the years and it’s one of those friendships that has truly never fizzled out. We make time for one another, we don’t have to do anything to have a good time, and enjoy one another’s families. Our boyfriends have gotten to be good friends as well, so it’s really fun!!

Over the past couple years, the word Galentine has been thrown around a lot and honestly, I love it. Long are the days where only people in relationships can celebrate on a certain day — let’s all celebrate. If you have a Galentine or are celebrating anti-Valentine’s in any sort of way, tell me about it!! I think it’s such a fun time of year to celebrate all love.

How to Dress on Trend if you’re CHEAP like me!!

Dressing on trend can be really fun and “in the moment”. However, what happens when you spend all this money on trendy clothes..and then it goes completely out of style? I KNOW! You lose out on money!

That’s why a lot of times I won’t buy something that I have a feeling won’t be around for a long time. Well, lately I’ve really wanted some trendy clothing, so I’ve found a way to get it for less. That way I can enjoy it while it’s in style, but when it’s gone, I won’t feel so bad never wearing it again.

The Real Deal about Blogging

It occurred to me this morning when my boyfriend’s mom showed me an article she found called “The Truth About Blogging” that all anyone wants to know when they start a blog is, “how do I become successful” “how do I get noticed” “how can I get readers” “when and how can I have things sent to me for free.”

Thousands of people read this article, and you can read it too right HERE, (I don’t condone some of the language) I am assuming because they wanted to know the secret potion on blogging. There must be an easier way, there must be a secret equation that I can apply  to the backend of my site to ensure that I get thousands of views on each post and to make sure I have no bad days on my blog. Guess what I realized when I thought about that very thing myself? THERE IS! Do you want to know what it is?!?!….

My Favorite Transitional Mules

Happy Wednesday everyone!

How’s everyone’s week? Mine has been FAB! I just started a new position in New York City so I’m very excited and eager to be there. It’s been a lot of fun so far and I’m learning a lot. I was thinking of starting a segment on here called Commuting Diaries since I currently 2.5 hours per day, each way to get to work! What better way to pass the time on the train than to blog? I thought so, nothing! I’m thinking of recapping interesting parts of my day, stories about commuting (I am sure I’ll have many) and just anything on my mind as I am on the train. It might be a lifestyle, motivational, uplifting but comical part of my blog. Plus, it’ll help me pass the time and that is needed.

One Year Serious Blog-iversary

Serious blog-iversary. What’s that?

Today is August 24 and it’s my one year serious blog-iversary! I’ve owned and operated my blog for four (almost 5) years now BUT I did not keep up with it or write as much OR be half as serious as I have been with it this past year.

I am so grateful that something clicked in my head a year ago that this blog could actually be the most amazing hobby, creative release and past time in my life…it’s been the most fabulous and fun journey.

How I Maintain my Long Natural Nails

IMG_0320.JPG

Hey everyone!

Today I wanted to talk about my nails because I get a lot of questions about them! I shamelessly will stop into the nail salon from time to time to get an occasional regular manicure for the sole reason that the nail technician usually compliments me on my nails…. (: Modest, I know!

All jokes aside, I really do get questions on how I keep them so long. They’re 100% mine and usually don’t have gel polish on them!
